Before reading The Big Tiny, I didn’t really know much of the “Tiny House Movement” until I came across an episode of Portlandia. They called them “microhouses” and it was sort of a both a comedic and satirical short about tiny houses. They showed how it was like living in a Tiny House in a way that made it seem almost impossible to be fully comfortable but give a weird vibe that everything was perfect. After reading The Big Tiny, it really impacted the way I view tiny houses and lifestyles by showing me how one is able to adapt and find comfort in a tiny house. Sometimes living in a tiny house can be a good thing because more time can be spent outside helping others like Dee Williams has. I learned Dee Williams experience that while living in a tiny house may suffice sometimes it can be stressful. Just as Dee Williams said about having a 85% of happiness of how she lives, there are times where living in a big house can solve everything but by living through it, she was able to get a better understand of who she is.
I live in a roughly 1300 sq. ft. house and I believe that I could handle living in a tiny house for a few days. This is because I’m mostly in my room, which is relatively small, and have most of what I need in reach. I think I would enjoy it because I’m open to experiencing new things. If I were to live in a tiny house, I would make sure to bring with me my coffee maker, a portable stove, a bed, a small animal, a heater, a fan, and other necessary things for living. Items that I would definitely need and cannot live without would be coffee, phone, laptop, and most importantly, Wi-Fi. I would essentially have everything in my bedroom as a part of a tiny house.
